Power Tour 2007
Saturday, May 15
Flagstaff, AZ to Downtown, Albuquerque, NM

“Roads? We Don’t Need No Stinking Roads”

Have you ever wanted to soar above the highway? To leave the traffic behind?

Then today’s your lucky day.

I’ve arrange through a friend, Lincoln Belt, to do a flyover of the Power Tour in a single prop Cessna. The plane is owned and piloted by Carl Geisert, a big Mothers® Polish fan.

In order to get a good look at the Power Tour, we’ll need to drive ahead and meet Carl at the airport in Albuquerque. I jump into Lincoln’s Buick Grand National and take off about half an hour before the rest of the pack.

People are already lining the bridges along the route out of town. They want make sure they don’t miss any of the action.

Leaving town early is this six door Checker Cab.

On the south side of Route 40, we spot something in the far distance. Using the latest digital enhancement , along with brilliant deductive reasoning, we determine it to be one of two things. Either a white ’69 Olds Cutlass with green interior, or a 2.5 hp Briggs & Stratton four stroke engine, with optional automatic choke.

“Hey Ken, how’s it going? I hear you’re going flying in a Cessna. I bet the ride’s going to be pretty rough. Mind if I tag along?”

Coming soon to an auto parts store near you, George Lucus’ new line of Darth Vader approved Laser Detectors.

We race down the road towards Albuquerque.

The Double Eagle II Airport. Our plane, a beautiful red and white Cessna 180.

Our crew from left to right; Ken Holland, Carl Geisert, Lincoln Belt.

Take it from experience, when you stand in front of a prop plane, make sure you know exactly what it means when the pilot shouts “clear.”

Carl also happens to own a 1994 Porsche 964 — rumored to go over 170 mph.

It’s about 2:00 pm, and we’ve intentionally avoided eating lunch — just in case of air sickness. Now I’m starting to wish I’d at least had a few drinks.

It’s time to fly.

One of the first cars we spot is our Mothers® ’59 Chevy Sedan Delivery.

Just about ten minutes down the road, we spot the Power Tour’s lead van.

We cross the highway to get a view from the other direction.

Once we get back down on the ground, we rejoin the Power Tour Cruise Party on the streets of downtown Albuquerque.

Nice finish. I wonder what it says?

A few computer tricks will set it right.

Another customer for our new care line. Perhaps we should call it Prime & Shine®.

Unlike other cities of western folklore, the streets of Albuquerque are not exactly paved in gold.

Next stop Amarillo, Texas.
