Epilogue
“Flat Out in Nashville”
Up early (what else is new?) and checked out of the hotel, we uncover the ’59 and head back to the street of Nashville. Gary’s dragging since he stayed out a little too late (actually it was more like early morning). I’m chipper as always from uploading 6 megabytes of photos and writing a story. The last night of the Tour I finally figured out a routine:
- Resize digital photos.
- Compress photos.
- Upload photos.
- Take second computer (ha, didn’t know we carried 2, did ya?) and write story while photos are uploading from first computer.
- Tweak story.
- Collapse in bed (this happens about 2:30 it seems).
- Wake at 5:30 am.

I say my goodbyes to Ray and Winnie Flugger of Flowmaster and their daughter Jackie. She’s the same age as my daughter Pamela, so I know there’s always someone on my (mental) level to talk to. They loaded their cars up last night at midnight (right under my hotel window, as a matter of fact) and head for the airport this morning. The streets are empty early. . .
. . . so Gary and I wander aimlessly , looking over all of Nashville’s hot spots. Crowds gradually appear, folks in their finest after Church.

All too soon it’s noon, time for Reliable Transport to pick up the ’59 for shipping to California. Gary positions the car carefully for entrance into the trailer,

while The TBC meets a relative.

In a moment of inattentiveness, Gary drives the car forward while The TBC gazes at his long lost cousin.

Words can’t fully convey my thoughts (or Gary’s hideous laughter) as the car creeps forward into the trailer.

As the paperwork is filled out, I peer down at my longtime travelling companion.
I think back to all the great times we’ve had, the places we’ve been, the things we’ve done and seen. And then I remember Booneville, Missouri a couple of days ago. A wet tire. A veiled threat. I didn’t really think he meant it, but those good ol’ boys from NASCAR were right. Payback is a Mothers®.
The TBC lives on in my mind and on my desk (as a drink coaster, unfortunately).
After a relaxing cab ride to Nashville International Airport, we soar off into the wild blue yonder, your intrepid Mothers® reporter and one slightly flattened Taco Bell Chihuahua. Things will never be the same in the places we went, yet the memories will live forever. We had fun, all the other Tour Dudes and Dudettes had fun, and we saw a great part of the country.
Next year? Who knows. I promise you though, when the 2000 Power Tour takes off, Mothers® will be at the forefront, spreading shine and cheer to all its friends.
(Please note, all you ASPCA members. No real animals were harmed in the course of this story. Any events, either actual or made up, are purely the result of a sleep deprived mind, excessive caffeine, and a fertile imagination; and in no way reflect upon our goal during the Power Tour, which was to have fun and spread a little of Mothers® all around.)
